Find out where Sare and Suze are now on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player Thursday 29 January at 10.15pm
Hit drama SisterS, created by, written by and starring real-life best friends Sarah Goldberg and Susan Stanley, is back on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player Thursday 29 January at 10.15pm for a second season.
After season one took place in Ireland the action now moves to Canada where the show takes a deep dive into themes of fertility, motherhood, the impact of repressed grief, intergenerational trauma and self-acceptance–dramatic themes uniquely and authentically explored through a comedic lens.
After being abandoned by her sister Sare in Ireland 18 months ago, Suze discovers some unsettling news about her future and her journey to motherhood. Meanwhile, in Toronto, Sare is planning her wedding day while also hiding a secret health crisis from those she loves. When an unexpected invitation to Sare’s big day prompts Suze and her mum Sheryl to travel to Canada, a chaotic journey across the Atlantic with family drama and unexpected revelations begins.
SisterS is about trying to find your true family, but looking in all the wrong places. This season digs deeper into what happens when life doesn’t give you what you want and what it takes to wake up to the fact that you have what you need.
Sophie Thompson and Donal Logue also reprise their roles as Sheryl and Jimmy, respectively, in the six-episode, thirty-minute series. Barbara Brennan also joins the cast as Ma Baker. Other stars include, Sonja Smits, Jim Annan, Dylan Taylor, Vanessa Matsui, Peter Keleghan and Linda Kash, playing Sare’s Canadian family.
Justin Healy, RTÉ Executive Producer, said: “This is an exciting year for RTÉ Drama, and we’re delighted to have recommissioned SisterS for a second series. The first series proved hugely popular with audiences, and it’s been a pleasure to continue supporting talented Irish creatives alongside our partners on this international production. Building on the success of series one has been a joy, with the writing and comedy really coming into their own. Once again, RTÉ is proud to bring local drama to an international stage, and with its high production values, exceptional quality, and stellar cast, the second season of SisterS promises to showcase Irish creative talent at home and abroad.”
Richard Cook and Angela Squire, Peer Pressure, said: "We are thrilled that our first comedy drama is coming back for a second season. While we have the familiar faces from season one, it feels like we're starting afresh, as the story shifts to Canada, bringing with it a whole new world and set of characters. This time we are excited for the audience to see our Irish characters as fish out of water in and around Toronto.”
Christina Jennings, President and Chairman, Shaftesbury, said: “Bringing season two to Toronto added a distinctly Canadian sensibility to the series. While the wintery Ontario backdrop may read a tad colder on screen, the heart of the comedy between the sisters remains as warm as we saw in season one. I think Irish audiences will really enjoy seeing how the story plays out.”
